Hey Allen, So I would like to retract the request of the Merlins Groove flu-
torial, I watched the video over and over and can now play the fun tune. If you could make a flu-torial of the Beatles song "Yesterday" I would be most grateful. Hope you're well!

Hi Allen, I really appreciate all the YouTube videos you have released and truly admire your flute playing. The first song I've learned to play on the NAF is Scarborough Fair by watching your
flutorial! I really like the Merlin Grooves song that you play, do you think you could make a flutorial of that song sometime? All the best, Doug

I just watched your video with the bass flute. great job. You gave the measurements for the flute and I was wondering what the wall thickness is. I have been trying to make one and I think my sound issue is with the wall thickness. Thanks, Steven

Hello Allen!
A fellow Ohioan here! First, thank you for all your work and inspiration.
Ive started to learn the NAF because of you! I now have a small collection of flutes (someone warned me that this would probably happen) that I enjoy playing. Lately I've been drawn to the EZanasazi which I've heard you play. Can you begin to play this flute in the same manner as a NAF, or is there a really different learning curve involved. Should I build up my playing skills first before attempting the EZanasazi? I'd appreciate your advice and thoughts on this. Kind regards, Tom

Allen,

I recently purhased a transverse bamboo flute from a market place a couple months ago. I've been practicing but your videos inspired me to get an authentic Native American flute. I absolutely love the sound. I'm stuck though in deciding which to get. I know I want a Laughing Crow Eastern Cedar but I can't decide if I should get the Fm, F#m, or the Em. I have watched so many videos and right now it's a coin toss. Any suggestions? TRF

Hi Allen, I came across your work on YouTube during the week, it's fantastic. The band I play in would very much like to use a portion of it as a sample in a song. Could you please contact me if this is something you would be interested in? And either way, beautiful sounds! Really hope to hear from you.

I was wondering if you could tell me what you think the best flute is for a begineer like me who doesnt really have too much to spend? I really like the F# sound and how its very mellow. What do you recommend? Thank you. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Mr. Ray, I've noted your excellent tutorials and have enjoyed your presentations. Since you are obviously a trained musician, I would like to acquaint you with my work on the Native flute. After some 60 yrs. of playing the modern flute I turned to the Native flute, collaborating with composers and developing new repertoire. I invite you to visit my web site-www.jamespellerite.com where I have posted also my CDs. If you email me, I'll send a sound clip from my latest CD (yet to be released). Best wishes to you, James

Hi. I'm Mira Lee and happen to live in the US along the riverside in the Black Hawk Region. As far as we do maple sugaring every spring, I'd like to do a humble but caring ceremony for our maples and came up with the ideas of Native Indian flute playing. But I don't have experience. Could you give me some tips about flues in terse of buying one as a novice. I want one which is not so big then I wouldn't have hard time carrying and has deep tone which can sound good in the riverside or in the woods. Thank you for you sharing your playing in Youtube.

A big fan of your music. Have your CDs playing in my car all the time. Thanks for all of your tube videos. You inspired me - a music novice - to get a flute. I do have a request. Well, after 3 months of playing by myself I finally went to my first Flute Circle at a Gathering they had at an Indian Cultural center in Lancaster SC. First time I've EVER met anyone else who even had an NAF, much less played one. Went around the circle completely before I played. I stood up, introduced myself, closed my eyes and played for in front of others for the first time. It was totally out of this world AWESOME! You were the first NAF player I ever heard and tried to learn from. You were never intimidating or show-offy. Your replies to my comments were motivational and I

reallyREALLY thank you. You always made it feel possible to do something other than just toot around. Oh...by the way. Hi Allen,

Many years ago I had an album by Paul Horn. He was playing a flute in the Taj Mahal. You probably know of it. It was the most incredible sound that I had ever heard. Note upon note overlaying one another for up to 20 seconds or so...and he was able to actually create harmonies with the different notes because they lasted that long. Utterly otherworldly and heart renching music.

Just last week, I received a David Nighteagle Low Bass D NAF that I had ordered from him. It is Eastern aromatic cedar and just really so beautiful.

I have never played one before but I have a good ear. I am finding that your tips and the beautiful songs that your flutes sing are wonderful inspiration for me to learn. I was not aware of mode 2, for example...and was already beginning to wonder if I would be able to stay with it as it seemed that I only had 5 notes to play. HA! My flute is a 6 hole flute, btw. I love the tunnel videos as they remind me of the Paul Horn lp from way back when.

There is something about you that touches my heart and I honor that. Thank you for sharing your love of the NAF with everyone and being such an inspiration. Now, I am off to find myself an enclosed stairwell. It works! :) Peace, Terry Florida

Allen,
I've been watching your videos for the three years I've been playing the NAF. There is not enough space on this site for me to tell you how much you have helped me on my journey! I recently had Richard build me a Eastern aromatic flute in the key of F#m. After watching your rendition of Amazing Grace on You tube with a Laughing Crow Dm (over and over again,) I felt the need to own and play one of his flutes. Needless to say it plays as sweet as it looks! I am looking forward to your Drone video's as I have the curly birds eye Maple drone in the key of Em in Richards shopping cart as I write this. Oh,and the getting unstuck tips you mention,I could use them NOW! :) I reach a level..get stuck..break through to the next level..get stuck..and so on. I'm rambling... Keep up the great work! Paul

Bruce, thanks for all of the videos on Youtube. I bought a flute on the Blue Ridge Pkwy while on a M/C trip a few years back. It played fine or so I thought. After a year or so I stumbled across your Youtube videos which inspired me to start playing almost every night. I inquired about one of the flutes that you played and you said it was a Laughing Crow. A quick Google search unveiled his website then I called him. It seemed everything on his site was already sold. As you know Richard is an easy guy to talk to and he recommended a beautiful piece in F#. I bought it sight unseen based on his description and recommendation. When it arrived it was unbelievable and it played even better than it looked. Talk about exceeding all expectations. It hit me immediately that you get what you pay for, even though I paid $175 for my 1st flute what I paid for Richard's was worth every penny and then some. Lately I've been playing on my sailboat in light wind days on the Chesapeake and I sometimes sit on the deck of my marina and play out over the water. Many folks have stopped by and commented on the unique sound. I'm now ready to look for another flute. I'm considering a Contra Bass but as of now nothing is carved in stone. Keep up the good work, you were a great inspiration and I'm sure you've touched many more lives than you know. Peace and much love to all.
